PicMonkey themes was my idea for bringing seasonal content together in one place, combining graphics, fonts, and effects to inspire creativity. Themes became a signature part of the PicMonkey experience.
THEME DESIGN & CURATION
Each theme had a distinct visual style, with curated sets of graphics, fonts, effects, patterns, and textures designed to work together. I balanced breadth and cohesion, combining licensed content with custom-designed elements to give users plenty of options while making it easy to mix and match elements that complement one another.
CUSTOM ILLUSTRATIONS
We created custom artwork as premium subscription content, such as the Santa Land character set I illustrated, inspired by classic Rankin/Bass holiday specials. I art directed some sets, like the school supplies, with basic free options and more unique premium options.
UX DESIGN
I designed a navigation model that lets users move from the full collection of themes into a specific theme, where they can explore and apply creative options to their images. Thumbnails preview what users can create while making the navigation itself feel creative and inspiring, with a cohesive style that makes each menu feel like part of the theme.
